Hi everyone, I'm in Washington D.C. today and thought I should drop by the "National Aquarium".   I think a better name would be underground Aptasia tank.
As always before entering aquariums around the country, I asked the ticket taker if they had a good display of "Live Coral"?. Oh yes, he said, we have a "living reef" down the hall to the right.  So I gladly paid my fee and headed down the hall.  I have to say I knew what I was getting into. The "National Aquarium is in the basement of the Commerce Building.  It would be more accurate for me to call it, " The National Aquarium that looks just like the tanks at the Utah State Fair Park, but with a lower ceiling and less lighting.
Well I made it down the hall to the right to find the mighty "Living Reef".  Oh it was living alright, a 125 with some of the biggest Aptasia around. But it was living alright, they also had 2 mushroom rocks and a lonely medium sized leather. The display of marine fish was of similiar nature.Wo is mePlease if you go to DC stay away and spend your time elsewhere.
Have a great meeting tonight.
Kirk

Do they still have that cool albino alligator?  That is about all I remember from that place.

So what do you think about the aquarium in Seattle?

I actually really liked it, but granted I wasn't a "reefer" when I last visited.

I was pretty dissapointed with Seattle's aquarium. The biggest dissatisfier was the uneducated staff that kept telling me how inappropriate and unethical it was for me to have a reef tank, especially with SPS since they all grow so slow and take so much from the wild. They had one decent reef tank and a couple very average ones. Their touch pool is cool though.
