| Trying to decide on some new lights! Anyone played with both the Vega and sol? Any other led you guys think would be better. Lets hear some input. |

I run the Vega on my tank. I opted for it due to the higher optics, color LED's and the fact that the LED pucks are customizable, soon AI will sell custom pucks with different light setups that you can put into the unit. Oh and the LEDS are individually controllable. Currently you have six channels of control but with the director controller coming out you can control each LED should you desire. This allows it to be up-gradable as new LED's come out. Par is about the same as the SOL. For the price IMO you just can't beat them. However I'd compare them to Maxspect if I were you and go with whatever you preference is. Both make amazing LEDS for a fraction of the cost of some of the others out there. Sol or Vega you can't really go wrong. You could also talk to Dion on the board here as he just switched his tank from the Sols to the Vega. ------------- None at the moment Soon: 72 Gallon Bowfront |

I ran Sol's for a year and loved them. I changed to the Vega's solely for the director controller. (which isnt out yet.) If you go sol's there is an upgrade kit to make them Vega'a in the future if you so desire (they are not out at this point) Either will do you great and used sol's are a great value! I know this will rub some people wrong but if you’re going led's do yourself a favor and go with a good brand like Aqua Illumination or Radions. Think about it this way. Both companies do so much with high quality parts. Look at the amount of led's in one of their fixtures compared to the fixtures that are on the market for cheap. Why do they have tons of bulbs vrs only a few in the big boys? Is it worth going cheap if you have to replace them in a year or two? Ive had this conversation several times in the last couple weeks. Several people who went with some cheap units already are having issues. I would have to respectfully disagree with dion. (Great thing about this country is I can have a different opinion) We sale a less expensive led, you can buy 2 for one verses the Vegas, we cover them with a 2 year warrantee, plus the increased number of LEDs in one fixture allows us to run 3 over a 6 ft tank with full coverage. With radions we had to run 4 to get the same coverage, at a price tag of $3,000. I am not sure how many Vegas you would need to cover 6 ft, but I am sure it is more than 3 at $500 a pop. Just a different opinion, and controllability of the vega is more customizable with each color independently dimmable. With our less expensive fixture we went back to the old style of BLUES (like the actinics or T12 of the past) and day lights, combo of white red and green (used to be metal halides), simple two channels = less expensive, just add a timer to each plug. We are an aqua illumination dealer and have plenty of customers running them with the only complaint being the price and controller interface. People also wish that the vegas were apex compatible. I currently run 1 sol super blue over my 30gal. And I freakin love it. On my new 90 I'm going to do all 3 Sol's. 1 Super Blue. 2 Vega's. And. Regular Sol white. To get all the color + par + ect. But sol vs. Vega... If you can afford the Vega, go with it. If you can't get the sol than upgrade it later :) |
