Someone gave me this RO Filter.  I think it was installed under a kitchen sink.  Is this something that would work in filtering my own RO water for my reef?  I would plan on replacing the filters with new ones.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Also, they even gave me a digital TDS meter.

It'll definitely be better than tap water, but it won't give you 0 TDS water. Change out all the filters, like you said. I looked up the membrane #, but I couldn't find out if a generic one would fit. If you have to buy all proprietary filters, it'll probably be cheaper to just buy a whole new unit. A quick search of the recommended membrane was $97...you could almost buy a brand new RO/DI for that.

I'll probably just get a new one then.  Seems to make more sense, plus 0 TDS water would definitely be better.  Thank you!

Bummer the unit is all ready to roll for you but, my RO unit is one of the best things I've bought for the tank. IMO it's as non-optional as a skimmer. Sure you can do without but with the RO unit on hand it takes an excuse away and water changes are simply that much easier. In the event of an emergency, I can get whatever water made up that I may need.

+1 I'd agree

I think my 4 stage R/O from BRS was like $129 and the replacement elements are readily available. I would just replace it if you have the funds to do so.

This is what I did, except I added on the dual-stage TDS meter. Great system!

OR...you could come to Fragstock and get in on the raffle! Air Water & Ice donated an RO/DI unit!! Shameless plug, I know.

I just installed my ro, but since I live near a store that offers it free, or salt mixed for .50/ or probably wasn't worth it for just the convenience.

+for the brs units...  fair starting cost for a pretty big unit, and the filters and replacement di is just easy and cheap to get.
