Try raising the skimmer up a bit.
I built egg crate stands to get mine to the "golden" elevation.

I did the same. I had to cut some pvc for legs... then put egg crate on top of them and put my skimmer it was an awesome cheap stand!

Raise skimmer to the proper water level, open the output and just let the skimmer run for a few days. running it without actually skimming will allow it to break in so that it's ready to skim once there are some proteins in the system to skim.
You have a new setup that has not even cycled yet so running the skimmer is not a good idea. Wait until your cycle has completed before trying to skim anything from the water. There is nothing for it to skim in a new tank.
New skimmers need to run for up to a couple of weeks in order to settle and be able to adjust them. Trying to adjust a new skimmer in a new system will generally result in total frustration and usually a mess. Krazie

Look up your model on one of the online stores and it should tell you the level. I believe the BM Curve series is 7-9 inches of water but don't quote me (only about 90% sure on that number). Krazie

I have a Curve5 as well. You want the water level on the lower end of what Bubble Magus claims. I believe that is 7 inches.
You haven't used any 2-part putty lately have you? I had to run activated carbon for a couple weeks after I initially did my rock work because I used 2-part putty to hold it all together and it was making my skimmer go crazy. After a couple weeks the skimmer performed perfectly.

Do you know for sure that no no one used anything other than bleach to clean the filter socks you are using? I recognize that skimmers can foam for hours sometimes but for several days seems problematic. Hopefully it is only your water level. What's with the advice to not use your skimmer for days when we have a couple of so called experts here trying to sell their new and improved method of stocking and setting up a stocked reef tank in a day. Gosh this mixedd advice must be confusing to some people.

I also have the curve 5. I had read about people with this same issue before I bouhgt it. I also came across a few people that ran theirs in a bucket of vinegar and water to speed break in. That is what I did and it has worked great from day one. This skimmer is very sensitive to water conditions, so please heed the advice about the sock and new tank. I would rince a new sock well before use. I run mine in 8" of water.

Try running it for a few days without the collection cup on and just let overflow these speeds up the break in time and works for me.
