I don't know. Maybe use a tape measure and a level? I use small chain to hang my lights. They make it easy to level the lights. Can you give us any more to go on?

i used 550 cord and they are crooked as hell plus they just look aweful and i have to take down the bracket and move it about 3 inches because i mounted the bracket too far back and so its casting crazy shadows

Look up "Plumb bob"
A simple piece of string with any small heavy item tied to the end is a plumb-bob.
The lightweight chain I use is its own plumb-bob.

A plumb bob would show if it was straight up and down. normally people want their LED lights to be level.

they are level horizontally and vertically but they start twisting around as soon as they get hung

The power cord pulls on the fixture, making it twist. Move the cord around the corner of the tank or secure it in a way that straightens the fixture.

When hanging lights, I set the two upper hanging mounts a little farther apart than the light fixture. For example, playground swings which have their chains mounted wider apart than the seat make it almost impossible for children to have fun winding up and spinning down. Does this make sense?

Aloha,
Mark  Hug
