I bought a medium sized raccoon butterfly a few weeks ago.  It appears to be very healthy and is in a 75g with a gold headed sleeper goby.  The problem is it will only eat live blackworms or live mussels.  It has grabbed flake, brine shrimp, angel and butterfly mix, and mysis before but spits it out immediately but very aggressively eats live foods.  It's too much of a hassle for me to keep buying live foods so how do I get it to eat flake and frozen.  I've already soaking the foods in selcon, zoe vitamins and garlic (combined and separately).  I also went to the LFS where I bought it and the other raccoon that was in the same shipment eats brine shrimp and mysis.  Thanks.

Wow.  First of all I commend you for those efforts.  That is great.

My first thought is that the raccoon is eating other stuff.  They are naturally nocturnal.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's eating at night and the only thing that is appetizing enough for him to eat during the day is live food.  (kind of like I don't get out of bed at 2am for anything.... well except left over thanksgiving turkey)

I would just give it a few more days.  He'll learn to eat what you are feeding.

Are you feeding the mussels in the shell? You may shift to feeding chopped live mussel.
Are you mixing the live and frozen foods together? Mix and let them sit together for 5-10 minutes.
Don't feed for a day or two and then give a small amount of the mix and gradually day by day, increase the amount of frozen. Don't feed a lot, but feed twice a day. The fish needs to be hungry to accept the idea that the frozen foods are okay.

Some fish can be too much bother and I hate to see them die in my care. That's one reason why I don't buy Butterflyfish.
