Not sure if i have posted this or not.

Is anyone running their refugium before their skimmer? Triton method suggests it, so that your caleurpa or cheato can take in what they need before your skimmer removes it forever.

Thoughts?

I run skimmer first. It cant remove everything coming through unless your return is pumped through the skimmer.

I don't neccesarily see anything wrong with going 'fuge first' in a sump - as long as you run a filter sock.

Otherwise, you refugium is going to become a 'crap trap' for detritus and uneaten foods getting caught up in the macroalgae.

Ideally, the 'best' setup for a refugium is a lower flow and out of the main flow stream through the sump. But not every sump is designed this way... mine is Wink

I have an Aqueon Proflex Model 3 sump and I have mine setup like this:
1st chamber- dual filter socks
2nd chamber- refuguim with rubble rock and caulerpa
3rd chamber- tunze skimmer and return pump
(i would prefer to not have the skimmer and return in same section but i had VERY limited space...)

Well as of saturday, i have my system running this way. Only time will tell, but for now seems like a good idea. No bubbles making it to my display either.
