my sailfin is not doing so good. His color is really pail and the whites look more greyis. He has some like blotchy marks on his body.... any thoughts as to what could be going on?

he is not touching the nori that is in there, but i did put some mysis shrimp soaking in garlic, and he did eat quite a bit of that, so that is a good thing.

Eating is definitely a good sign but based on his coloration it doesn't look good. Sometimes fish can really change their color like that due to stress.

If it's stressed crush up a zoloft.....JK . Sorry to hear that it's not doing good. I really hope he pulls through. I loved our sailfin. We will definitely need to get a new one when we get our tanks situated.

so was it the melafix or the garlic?
What does melafix fix and how? What does it have in it?

My sailfin did the exact same thing but then died. I didn't try Melafix but did use Garlic. I guess I should have used Melafix Melafix uses Melaluka (sp) which I think comes from the bark of a tree in Africa? People who use it for themselves say it works.

it is a baterial infection remedy that for the most part it reef safe. The corals hate it and are closed up for a while but they will come back. It seems to have done the trick. I don't think it was the garlic but i do add it occasionaly to food anyways so i fugured why not.
There is also a product called primafix which is for fungus.

Arriving late to the party but i would ask these questions of you, Taylor:
1) How long did you have your sailfin when you first noticed this palid coloration?
2) Did the fish look "worst" early in the morning or right after turning on the lights?
The reason I ask is because maybe it wasn't "sick" at all - just new and a little stressed. Also, I can remember having Yellow Tangs that got very pale looking every night due to the lights being off. When I first saw it I was worried but later realized it was normal for them.
My Foxface used to do the same thing while sleeping; very blotchy, pale colors, lay almost on his side... but he was fine
