So these guys have been in the tank for maybe 5 months? The last week they have been in this formation:  They are always like that now and never separate. Are they Mating, Dying, or is one just really attached?

Sorry you guys but it's not like that. The top Star is eating or trying to eat the bottom Star. I'd remove them and give them back to the store. Those guys have murdered your live sand bed. They have eaten all the sand animals they could find and are now hungry enough to eat each other. I wish the stores would stop selling those Stars.
