My new aquacultured acropora collection

#1  A. delsawii.  My favorite.

#2  A. insignis.  The camera doesn't do the blue tips justice.  Very pretty in person.

#3  A. horrida

#4  A. florida.  Notice the acro crab peeking out.  They're so tiny.  I got at least 3 of them.

#5  A. florida.  A little blurry.

#6  A. vermiculata.  My other favorite.

#7 Continued below

#7  A. loripes

#8  A. nasuta.  It's grey-green but it's developing pale branch tips.

#9  A. insignis.  The camera doesn't capture the blue very well.  Very beautiful in person.

#10  A. nana

#11  A. delsawii

#12  I was supposed to get 12 and they only sent me 11.

I think

#1 is A.delsawii; fairly similar to A.plana

#2 and #9 is A.insignis.  But A.parilis and A.loisetteae look very similar as well.

#4,5 do look like A.florida to me

#6 looks more like A.vermiculata to me.  It is very similar to A.tenuis; but the axial corallites are much shorter.

#7 is A.loripes

Dinhkim,

I was hoping you'd reply.  I agree with all your suggestions- at least I can't see any evidence to disagree.  I have a list of possible species I could have/should have received from the supplier and I picked my IDs only from that list.  However, I think your ID skills may be better than the person who made the list.  The list includes:

caroliniana
divaricata
echinata
efflorescens
florida
formosa
horrida
jacquelinae
longicyathus
loripes
millepora
nana
nasuta
parilis
plana
selago
simplex
suharsonoi
tenuis
valida
yongei

#11 looks like delsawii too, or something similar.  I think #8 is A. nasuta- maybe it'll look like this when it grows up and colors up

Thanks for your help,
Steve

Hey Steve,

Very nice corals overall.  I would love to get my hands on some A.simplex, suharsonoi and caroliniana.

Next time I order I'll try and get one for you.  It seems like my supplier only receives one or two of those species each week and more than a dozen of the common varieties.

Very nice corals! Why is A. nana named like that. Is it because the colony stays small, or the corallites are small?

Hey everyone if you are interested in these steve is selling them!  There are a few left.  I have seen them (as they are in my tank at the moment ;) ) and they are sweet.  Believe me if I was loaded I would take them all.  But they are nice if you are interested go to Burtonmarine.com or talk to steve.  Just thought I would say ;)  Thanks everyone.
