Topic: SWC 120 vs Reef Octo 110nwb Posted: September 19 2010 at 5:04pm |
So I asked this on another forum without any reponse, so i'll ask here
I am in the market for a skimmer, I want either the Reef Octopus or the SWC Extreme 120 Cone Skimmer.
I've heard great things about both, but have been told the SWC is the best for the price, but I wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with it?
Thanks

Which Octopus skimmer are you looking at? They make quite a few. If you are talking about the super reef octopus skimmers with the pump underneath, I would go with the SWC cone 160 much better built skimmer I think the Octo's look kind of cheap. Performance wise I can't comment on the Octo but I have heard nothing but good things about the SWC cones.

Sorry, noticed you have the Octopus 110nwb in your main question Definitly go with SWC 160 cone, worth the extra cash.

I think i'll just go a step down and go with the SWC 120, seems like a solid skimmer, can be torn completely apart for cleaning and it will handle 90g under a heavy load (I've got around 60g of total water volume)

I would go with the SWC for sure over Reef Octopus stuff. The Atmann pump is a better pump then what RO uses.
