I have a Powder blue tang and recently added 2 more tangs naso and kole tang and my powder blue started thrashing around the tank looking for a fight and I believe he thrashed into some rocks and now has a 3/8 inch circle where there is no skin any thoughts on what it is and if there is any thing I can do to treat it I would have a pic but not sure what happened to my camera at the moment

well first off i'm sure you know now that adding tangs AFTER a powder blue was a bad idea. You should also know that a 100g will not be large enough for the naso and the powder blue long term which may also have to do with the aggression. If he is still eating leave him be. If its not a life threatening hole it will heal

I know it was risky I never planned on adding any more tangs after but thought I would give it a try after the first night they have been fine I put a mirror in front of there food and it kept the powder busy till the order of things worked out and I know that in a year or 2 these will need to find a bigger home but there seems to always be someone needing large tangs to go in there tanks

Yes there are. Powder blues are however notorious bullies once established. Many people on here are happy to help you with some information whenever you have questions about fish. Some need to be added first and some need to be added later. I've found that with tangs the BEST way is to add them all at once IF POSSIBLE.. if not there is a pretty good rule of thumb with the introduction order. Same way with wrasses and tileman can always answer questions about them. If they continue to fight you can rearrange some rock to confuse them. Also keep some nori in there to distract them also.

Good luck keep us updated

The order is partly determined by which fish you are looking to combine, but in my experience this can be alleviated all or partly by knowing one important thing. In a large public aquarium, the reason that thousands of different fish, including predators, can be packed in together seems to be a function of space and food. The next time you visit a public aquarium, notice all the fat fish.Big smile

For us, space is at a premium. Since we don't have 10,000 gallons for our fish to move around in and moving to a ~500+ gal tank is out of the question for most of us, the next best thing we can do is feed like crazy.

I have found that I can keep almost any Tangs together if I prepare ahead of time. The perception that a fish has of it's food supply is made when it first enters a tank. If the rock is bare there is no hope of grazing on the usual foods it had in the wild. It may go crazy, literally. I'm not joking here.Smile Wouldn't you go crazy if you were thrown into that kind of situation?

Ideally, I let the tank grow a thick crop of Macroalgae, mostly Caulerpa because it's easy, before I introduce the Tangs or any herbivorous fish. If they can graze all day long they settle in much easier. I also use my fish training methods. Also, long before the macroalgae is all gone I will feed Romaine and Nori. Fish will also chew on Cauliflower and Broccolli leaves! Then when the macroalgae has been completely cleared they will be accustomed to each other and the every day incoming abundance of Romaine and Nori will allow them to continue happy with the understanding that there is plenty of food to go around. It's the [perceived] lack of food that causes most territorial aggression.
