In the last couple of weeks my SPS are turning browns and my LPS are not opening up fully.  I did water changed and that didn't seem to have any improvement.

Water parameters:

Salinity  1.025

Cal.        420

Alk.        11

PH          8.2

Nitrate    0

Nitrite     0

Temp.     75

That is all the test kits I have for.

I don't really know what to do next to recuperate my corals.  Can someone come over and troubleshoot my tank problems.  I highly appreciated

Duy

how is the water flow in the tank? How old is the lighting? I would probably add some carbon in a baggy in a high flow area. That usually seems to help my tank out when things look unhappy. If you are skimming, I would turn up the skimmer.

I am a big fan of water changes.  I have a couple of indicater corals that I use to determine if water changes are needed.  I usually do a couple of water changes per month but during kayaking season (January - December) I tend to get neglectful and need some reminding.

Flow is provided by two Koralia and two Via Aqua pumps, in total of 1500 GPH.  I added carbon on the last water changed.  I will try to do more water changes.  I still think that something is that right in my tank.  If someone could come over and points out those mistakes that will help a tons.  Thanks

Did another water changed today, but haven't see any improvement with the corals.  What can I do next to help my poor corals?  Thanks

are you adding and iodine to the tank. and if not try it but get a test kit before hand because iodine is extremy toxic when there is to much in the water.

Ryan,
I used to add iodine for my softies, but if I remember right I had to be careful because it was toxic to lps and sps?

Duy,
I'm having the same problem.  I probably compounded my original problem by making so many changes.  The last thing I found is my tank read 1.031 for it's salinity.

John, I have exactly the same problems with salinity level, my hydrometer are about .005 off.  It was about four months since I calibrated my hydrometer with Mike Savage refractometer.  I think I need to do that again to make sure it not that off again.

All my parameters are within ranges, and have done many water changes but my LPS and SPS are not happy still.  Is my tank in the process of crashing?  Any advice is highly appreciated.  Thanks

Duy

not sure what is going on. perhaps you know someone close by who can take some of each of your corals until you get things back on track?

If you top-off with RO water, I would test the TDS of it. I know there are some club members that live in the southern part of slc that have TDS meters. If you are topping off with tap water, I would test that water or pull a report that your city posts on the water levels.

I got my RO from Marine Aquatics, so that's probably not the problem.

Steve, I will definitely call Bruce if I don't see signs of improvement in the next few weeks.  I'm in West Valley.

Thanks

Duy,

Ever test your magnesium? And is there anyway possible that some airborne cleaner may have made it into your tank? Also, I would suggest testing for phosphates(is there any cyanobacteria?).

Thanks Jason, I tested magnesium at DKLE house and it a little low but within range.  I don't think any cleaner chemicals get in my tank.  I don't have a test kit for phosphates.  No cyanobacteria at the moment.  All my softies are doing great including the new glove coral I got from DKLE, but my zoos have never opened up since the LSP and SPS turn bad.

Maybe a possible chemical war going on... how's your carbon?

OK .. think back a little ..

did you add anything to the tank a day or two before your corals started going south? .. by anything I mean corals, additives, change food, new fish etc. ... is your skimmer producing the same amount? ... how old are your lights? .. any other algae outbreaks? .. What are your temp swings .. is your tank getting colder at night than usual? ..

It very well could be a chemical war issue as reptoreef stated ..
