I have a venduri style skimmer and I have noticed lately that the air hole keeps getting gummed up with something (could be calcium or salt). Does anyone else have this problem and if so what do you do to fix it? It takes so long to take apart and clean the tube that I have recently started putting a couple drops of viniger in the air tube and letting that clear the blockage (seems to work). Will that hurt my tank?

Either RO or I remove the airline and use a small drill bit (by hand) to remove the deposits.
It sounds like a common problem.

In my old tank I had my RO water top off come into a tee (the vertical line from the tee was open to let air in and keep from forming a syphon).  I stuck the suction line from my skimmer into the top of the tee down past where the fresh makeup water entered the sump but still in the air.  Every time my make-up water pumped into the sump it sucked a little bit of RO water up into the skimmer and kept the line clear for as long as I had that tank.  I've been wanting to do this again on my current tank but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
