I rinse mine inside out in the hottest water i can get from my sink ( ours is around 175 F ) turning it inside out many times to keep rinsing all the gunk out... once the filter is white again i take it outside and swing the heck out of it to get all the tap water out.... or most anyway... I then take a bowl and fill it with RO and let the bag sit in it rolled up so that it absorbs the RO... Let sit for a couple minutes then ring out and install back in my sump.... Havent had any issues yet!

I toss them in the washer with the fish towels and a little bit of laundry detergent (like half or less). Then they are done I throw the towels in the drier and give the filters a second rinse. Lately I've been turning them inside out to wash them. It's a real pain, but I think it helps a lot.

Washer all by themselves (no clothes) with bleach, hot water, no soap
I have an 'extra rinse' option so I use that
Come out super clean every time, I don't need to turn them inside out or anything

I've also been told that if they are looking dingy... to use 2-1 vinegar Solution while rinsing....

I use the sanitary setting on my washer, with bleach and I fill the prewash container with vinegar. So it washes with vinegar first then adds the bleach. I don't worry about inside out or not (doesn't matter with my washer) and then I air dry because I use fabric softener sheets for my other wash and don't want that getting on the clean socks. Krazie

Man maybe I am just ultra paranoid but I would never ever put mine in the wash on any setting, soap, no soap, bleach, etc, I know many do it with no apparent issues but I just am not willing to take the risk even if its only in my head. I rinse with a hose in summer (hand held shower head on power setting in winter) inside out and normal. Then I air dry so chlorine evaporates, then once fully dry I soak in rodi water for 1 day, then air dry again. This is the only method I have found that when I add a new filter sock my skimmer has zero reaction, all other methods would cause my skimmer to foam excessively for a few minutes which meant some chemical was entering my system. I have 8 socks so I usually do this in batches. I spend too much on gfo/carbon, just my tank in general to risk the little bit of soap (thus phosphates and other chemicals) which may transfer just even being around my washer or having the chlorine from bleach or water (which my tap water is full of) in my system. Gives me piece of mind that if I do have an issue in my tank I know its not from how I clean my filter socks.

Laundry mat for the initial wash- no soap or bleach. Bring them home and throw them in our own washing machine on a double rinse cycle- again no soap or bleach. Air dry.

I had heard of people washing theirs in the machine wth no soap so I tried that and the first time it worked. However, this second time I did the same thing but I can smell some sort of "scent" on the socks so I went and bought new ones as I was afraid to use the scented ones.

After washing they will still smell like bleach. Give them a few days to air dry and the bleach will evaporate. Don't use scented bleach, just straight chlorine.
