Topic: what is a frag? Posted: February 11 2005 at 3:58pm |
SO Mark posted a few days ago about fraging and it made me think.
People have a differant idea of what a frag should be. I think it would be a good idea if the seller posted some basic info when selling frags. Also I think that it would be a good idea if buyer were to pm the sellers and let then know if they have any concerns about what they recieved. This would help people work together better and be more satisfied with transactions.
The info I think that should be posted is..
Atached of unatached What it is atached to ie lr plug ect . Also a rating for size xsm sm med lrg xl
Example: green slimmer frag sm unatached
Maybe I am just adding confusion. Sorry just something to think about.

I agree 100% ... I would love to see this sort of info posted with frags.
Personally, I try to post # of polyps for zoos, size in inches of sps frags,
along w/ pics, etc ... and PRICE! It always surprises me when people don’t post
prices of their frags.
Not to flog a dead horse or anything ... but it would be nice to have some
suggestions or guidelines for the B/S/T forum. New guys sometimes don’t know
what questions to ask or what to expect when buying frags, rock, etc.

Bruce and Corey are spot-on, and should be, considering the amount of frags they sell and trade. There's nothing worse than thinking you just gave someone a great deal and then having them show up here and discuss their dissatisfaction. These guidelines would really clear these issues up. FWIW, you guys are awesome and I truly appreciate your love of the hobby and the frags you've shared. By-the-way Bruce, 3-headed hammer coral you sold me, is very soon to be 6 heads. Thanks again!

I agree that it would be nice to be able to give more detail with frags. I have had both sides of this issue, where I recieved a smaller frag than I was expecting, and there have been times when I gave smaller frags than I should (I have tried to rectify those instances when it dawned on me). Though sometimes it is hard to give the info, especially if you are selling frags that are not fragged yet... But I will from now on try and do what I can to keep people informed.

I'm sort of posting this just to make y'all laugh... but I always think it's interesting when someone has a "purple" or "blue" or "red" coral that I'm interested in. Then when I see it... I'd swear the thing is BROWN. So I love pictures! Maybe it's just me, though (??)

Oh - wait - - I do realize that they're different under someone else's lights. I just got some frags from Shane H. that were green in his tank, but have purple tips in mine. Tee hee hee!

Renee, I have spent good money frags before just to find out a week later that under my lights it was the same thing I already had.
Anyway thats a whole differant topic. As for now I am going to work on more acuratly describing what I am selling.
Jamison, I am glad to here that the hammer is doing well. That really makes me happy to know that someone got something cool from me. I can pretty much remember were I got what however there are those corals that stand out and I think man that was cool getting that from so and so.

Doesn't it just chap your hide when frags look better in someone else's tank. --> renee.
I do like the idea of posting more detailed information about frags - but I also like people coming to my house and seeing for themselves. That way, there can be no confusion about what the frag looks like or what the parent looks like.
But, alas, Brigham City is so far to drive ...

yeah i agree that sizes and good discriptions (pics too if possible) are a wonderful way of going about it. Where I am new to salt water tanks I still dont know what most things are. So as much information I can get about the frag is great. Even knowing how long u've had the origional (if u remember) and how well it grows (hardy/speed of growth etc) and maybe even some tips you might have to make this frag happy would always be appreciated
