Okay, I've been looking into some more corals for my new tank.  What is the difference between acro and monti?  I don't know how to spell them but I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.  Anyways, my tank is going on three months old, is it okay to start adding these types of corals?

Perhaps I would be better at basket weaving. . . at least it would be cheaper!

I'd say you can try them. Just start with a couple of small frags and go from there. If they die you know you are not doing something right.

Montipora and acropora grow a little different from one another. Montipora have a somewhat smooth appearance to their skeleton, and acropora have jaggid protrustions where the polyps exit the skeleton.

Below are some images with titles.  Monitpora are generally hardier than acropora and some consider montipora a good starter SPS coral.  Another good starter SPS is a pocillopora.

Acropora

Branching Monitpora
Plating type Montipora

Oh Mark, just relax a bit!

Brown Montipora Digitata is cheap/free and a great starter coral, IMHO.  I think there's a thread about this as well.

I would agree on just about all other types of monti and acropora sp. however.  Mark is right when he said to wait a while longer.

Ya sure I didn't even realize there were more posts on that thread.  I haven't even read the ones since my last post, sorry mark.
