Topic: Yellow wrasse missing Posted: March 19 2013 at 3:37pm |
So I got a yellow coris wrasse on Saturday from reefon. I acclimated him and I put him in the tank he was out for most part of the day until afternoon when I went into the sand. Saturday and Sunday was in the sand and sometimes coming out for a few hours. Monday morning I saw him with just his face out of the sand and since then I haven't seen it. I know that sometimes they take a few days they will stay under the sand until it gets comfortable. So is this normal or not ? Should I start to worry? How long does it normally take for him to be out? Also it has been eating every time that it was out.

Most of my wrasses "disappear" for up to several days at a time
My Richmond's Wrasse actaully only shows itself about once every 3 days (for maybe 3 -4 hours) then disappears again
Somewhat normal wrasse behavior; if it is hiding but hten coming out to eat, etc every couple of days I wouldn't worry too much.

How old is your tank? You dont want to disturb your entire sandbed all at once if it hasnt been done in a while. First thing I would do is an ammonia test. If you have a large clean up crew and the fish died, its probably eaten by now. If you cant find the remains and ammonia is present water changes just to be sure. Just an idea ; ) My yellow coris wrasse died, found the remains and pulled it out. one of my clowns wasnt swimming at all (male 1.5 inches) and his breathing was faster than the rest. Not sure exactly what caaused this but after a water change and 2 days after, he is normal again.

I don't have a great clean up crew just enought I eat the left over food If it was dead would I have found it already or will it be under the sand? Everything in the tank looks fine/normal but it is possible to it be alive still

It's been 5 days now and haven't seen it. I look a little in the sand but didn't find it. I was told that I need to look for a long time in the sand for it to pop up because they move in side the sand. Is this true? Also I just thought that maybe since its wild caught it didn't handle the move well and has die, have anyone have experience with wild caught and wrasses from reefon?

We have a small blunt nose/rainbow wrasse from ReefOn. He's been doing fine for a few months now.

I got my Yellow Coris Wrasse from Jerry at the Feb Club meeting, along with a big pink Sea Cucumber... both are doing great. The Coris I see about every other day; sometimes every 3rd day
