I have a lot of aptasia in my tank i want to get rid of it but i dont
know how to start or prety much what to do. Would the best method
be to remove them by hand, poison them, or get some kind of fish?
Please and thankyou.

Peppermint shrimp. Buy four of them, and seriously you will have no aptasia in two weeks.

IMO - Every tank should include a peppermint shrimp or two for maintenance. They will definately take care of this problem.

Hello everyone,
Every tank should include a peppermint shrimp or two for maintenance. |
What are they maintaining?
Thanks,

Baby Aptasia that you can't see, left over food, detritus built up in rock crevices.

I agree with the peppermint shrimp solution. They do a good job with baby aptasia. You might carefully have to take care of the larger aptasia by some other technique though. I wont recommend any here since the debate usually goes both ways on that.... . I have 7 peppermint shrimp at the moment and my aptasia is under control. Do I have a few? sure but the population is almost static.

This is crazy talk in my opinion.
How big is your aquarium? How many Aiptasia do you have?
Although I do prefer peppermint shrimp as Aiptasia control, I have never seen them eradicate the Aiptasia in 2 week. Usually this will take a month or two for them to be eradicated. Depending on the size of your tank and the severity of the Aiptasia plague you may need many more then 4 peppermints.

We also have Suzy. She has a Butterflyfish in a tank where she transfers rock temporarily just to get it cleaned of aiptasia. Talk to her about having her babysit some of your rock for a few days, Be sure to move rock in water following the procedure I recommend and often write about.

Seahorse321- If you don't mind, please tell Jake that he is crazy, and doesn't understand the true power of peppermint shrimp. I'd tell him, but he doesn't listen to me anyway.

The anenomes aren't gone but now there is only about 2 big ones and a
few of little ones left. I'm afraid I have to agree with Adam.

I had an aptasia problem as well. I have one cleaner shrimp and I use the kalkwasser in a saringe method for the "big ones". Not necessarily recommending it. But it worked for me.
There is not a single "visible" aptasia in my tank and hasn't been for months.

Just adding my experience to the rest. I had aptaisia with my new rock and bought one PS. The PS is awesome. Its constantily running about the tank looking for food and its grown quite a bit now, so must be finding stuff. Mine is very personable too. It will come right up to the front of the tank as it makes its rounds, completely ignoring me. Today I held some flake food between two fingers at the top of the tank and within minutes it was at my fingertips munching away. Now I'm wondering what other cool tricks I can teach it :) Oh, and I forgot to add, I have no aptasia problem at all now in my 12g nanocube. One PS was all it needed.

I've been having an Aptasia problem and have added a couple PS and a Copper Band Butterfly. I've read some articles saying that once the Aptasia is gone the Copper Band will begin eating corals. Before I bought the butterfly I asked around and had several people tell me it would be okay having it in my reef aquarium. Does anyone here have any experience with Copper Bands and if so what was your experience in regards to your coral?

Do you know the level of expertise of those that told you it would be okay? What coral do you have in your tank?
Butterflyfish in general will eat any coral polyp and will clean your tank of featherdusters as well.
Sounds like you are seeking support that you made the right purchase. Sorry, but I suspect that your purchase may end up causing the demise of many beautiful tank inhabitants.

It's kind of sad... I've never had a chance to experience Aptasia in my
tank... I've had PS in my tank since the beginning.
I figured at some point I would have aptasia... but it's been a year now,
and I haven't.
