So i'm staring a new 37 gl. tank and i'm looking for a suggestion on one more fish to add. so far i'm planning on adding a scissor goby, clown, longnose hawk, and dragon goby (sleeper goby as i found out it;s really called). any suggestions on a last fish? i'm not looking for something too big or too difficult to keep. and i would prefer a swimmer (someone who will add some movement.) i've got one suggestion for a chalk bass which i like but i would also like some color variety as it is simular in color to my hawk. so let me hear what you've got to say and i'll take in into consideration. thanks for the help.

I know it sounds kinda typical, But I would do a clownfish. If you do that, Try and add a TRUE PERCULA. They have alot better colors and are all around better looking

I like occelaris colors better than percs.

I think all anthias need more space than 37 gallons.

you can always get a smaller one and keep it in their for awhile. I didnt suggest a clown becasue it says he has a clown. He also said he wanted more color. Pygmy Angels are always good in small tanks.

I wasn't suggesting anything, just comments. I have no experience with most of the fish planned so I didn't know what to say.
Is coral in this tank? What kind?

If I remember correctly, my first ever wish list of fish went pretty much unfilled for a while.

Sorry, but the only one of those I would keep from that list is the Clownfish. The Hawkfish is a major bug eater. No bugs means greater tendency for nuisance algae. The Scissortail Goby tends to hide a lot and the Sleeper Goby is going to throw sand all over the place, and ruin the LS. A Dragon Goby is really cool in a larger tank. I had one that was constantly rearranging piles of rubble looking for bugs to ea. It would move a pile of rubble from one side of the tank to another.
If you like Hawkfish and Gobies , I'd suggest a larger tank that has been growing for a while to give some stability before those new fish come in and eat everything up.
This is my 2 cents.

Suggested fish:
Several small Herbivorous fish
Three clownfish. If 2 pair up, the other can be removed if necessary.
Midwater fish like Chromis, Cardinals, etc.
Any of the the Pygmy Angels.

It's important to look at what a fish eats and determine if your setup can provide some of that food naturally. You will be glad you did some homework because you will have more fish that survive.Smile
I'm not going to tell you how many fish I killed in my first year in this hobby.Dead

Scissortail gobies are schooling fish so having only one may not be the best idea.  They do school with bar/barred gobies though, and the bar/barred gobies tend to be a little more social swimmers and may keep the scissortail from hiding so much.  Beware that both kinds are MAJOR jumpers.  I have had several types of them go carpet surfing over the last year or so (Even through 1/2"-1/4" netting) but some have stayed in the tank.   So unless it is a covered tank they will probably get out.  They are very cool fish though.

I agree with Mark in relation to the all the fish.  And it really is frustrating to want the kinds of fish that don't really go well in that style tank.  That's just how the hobby is and why a lot of us get bigger or multiple tanks. LOL

I would stick with a clown or two.  They are cool.  I have one of the various kinds in 5 of my tanks.  The maroons are kinda aggressive though.

Blennies are cool.  I really like the Bicolor blennies.  They will find a home in the rocks and will hang out there with their head sticking out when they aren't swimming around.  Though you may want to wait till you have some more algae growth for a blenny to eat.

The royal gramma basslet is a pretty fish that seems to get along well with other fish.  Just make sure it isn't a bicolor pseudochromis (they look similar, but the gramma has a black dot on the dorsal(top) fin) the psuedochromis is semi-aggressive.

Instead of the sleeper goby (that throws sand and if you get corals will bury them or at least try to) you might want to check out the pearly/yellowhead jawfish or a dusky jawfish.  They make a little home in the sand (deeper sand is needed) by the rocks and are neat little guys.  Though some have been said to jump too.

Cardinals are good for smaller tanks.  Holdencraft 33(Dion) usually has some banggai cardinals that he has raised and he sells them much cheaper than stores.

Hope that helps and saves you some trouble.  Smile
