Topic: HELP! I may be in trouble. Posted: January 13 2009 at 9:48pm |
Hi all. I got a JBJ 24 gallon nano with the POwer Compact lighting. I am planning on buying the Metal Halide Upgrade hood at some point. Anyway here is what is up.
Some well meaning freinds bought me a Condy anemone for my birthday. Not wanting to offend I said "oh great thank you its beautiful!" But really it was Awww shiz can my lighting support this?! What should I do? I really wound love to keep it but I dont want it to die either. If I put it at the very top of my tank would it have a chance? Or do I need to find it a home ASAP? Thanks

They also got me a sally lightfoot crab LOL. Ahhh I guess I will just let the crab hang out until he gets a bit bigger and then I will probably have to find him a bigger home. He is cool looking though.

I kept a condy with a clarkii hosting in a 20 gallon tank with normal lighting. It was in my daughters class room at her school. It did great! They fed it freeze dried krill several times per week.

Well i put him in. I guess we will wait it out and see. Are there any warning signs that he is not happy and might let go on me? Thanks!

I want ur friends! It will move if it isn't happy. It will close up and shrivel, if it is dying. But it also poops that way to so... Just keep an eye on it. It should be fine. Krill 1-2 times a week. And it is quite happy.

That orange base on it is a good sign. If that goes pure white u might be in trouble. that is the Zooaxanale (spelling) that live on it dying. The Zooaxanale (spelling) feed the Condi about 90% of it's food. I will try to get a good pic of mine tommarrow for ya. Or if you are down in SLC stop on by!

He's Moving up the rock! Am I in danger of him wandering into that powerhead you see in the picture?

It should do fine under PC's but if you want him to grow i would feed him, my condi will accept silversides. Keep on eye on him until he settles in one spot. Mine typically only move at night though so make sure you cover that powerhead

You think I should just turn the power head off at night? Will flow needing stuff suffer overnight? He is all the way behind the rock that he is on in the picture now. Wedged between the wall and the rock.
Thanks

Don't turn it off. Cover it. Screen,pantyhose... Just so it can't get choped up.

Covering the intake with a screen is almost a necessity in a situation like this. Too fine of screen can become quickly clogged, creating a need for frequent maintenance. Needlepoint plastic canvas is the best material I have found for this purpose. Placing the screen immediately around the powerhead is not an efficient way to do it. The best use of a screen is to diffuse the strength of the intake suction. This is done by placing the screen a short distance outside of the pump intake. I will post a pic later showing this idea.
