Why can't I keep leathers?!  For the last two days my green finger leather has looked like mickey mouse fingers!  It's half the height it was and it's just nothing but "nubs".  Everything else looks the same.  The temp is at 76-78.  What the hell?!

Perhaps I would be better at basket weaving. . . at least it would be cheaper!

Give it time, until it falls off the rock or disapears I wouldn't be too concerned. I have several leathers that go through some fairly long cycles of looking like they are close to death and then pollup out and look awesome.

yes do not worry over this. i have a toadstool leather and a finger leather and they both go through cycles. i have had both go through week long cycles where they completely shrivel up and look like crap. they usually end up shedding some skin afterwards and then open up and look magnificent and are bigger. so be calm and patient the leather is fine.

Oh good!  I will just keep my fingers crossed!  If it sheds, do I have to try to remove the stuff, I mean will it not spoil my tank?

No, I wouldn't worry about removing the shedded skin. I have never seen big pieces of the stuff floating, nor have I ever seen it happen in mass amounts.
