i think that the whole light acclimation thing is bs, i took a brain that was under 80 pc for months and put it right at the top of my 90 gal within inches from 2x250 mh, and it thrived 2 weeks later i put in about midway in the tank and it doesnt like it there as much.

but to answer you question i have never had anything rtn on me....knock on wood.
pitiful guppy tank.

Unfortunately it isn't. Ive lost several corals from putting them up to high to begin withCry. Acclimation is important in all aspects.

ditto Dion, I also have that happening and I have had the corals for 2 months and I started them out on the bottom and now they are about 1/2 way up my rock and it was doing great.  Everything is great I think.  I have done some tests on everything and it all pans out great.  Will they start to die if your alk drops low?  I did have to corret my alk the other day.  It was around 7 or 8 but all the other corals were doing awsome.  Could this be the cause?  Sorry to hijack but I thought you might have something simular

Alk or Calc that is way out can cause damage to your corals. (sometimes fish as well) To be honest I don't test much. Ive gotten used to how things should look and what is the usual cause. I start there and then test if that doesn't solve the issue.

the light bulbs are fairly new (6 month). i have a mess cover over the top to protect the wrasses from jumping out. so too much light, i doubt that would be.  the corals have been in the tank and growing nicely.  two weeks ago some of the corals tips begining to rtn, at that time i also had red slime broke out. i didn't do much about it, and the tank didn't look any better.  so i  went to aquatica and got red slime removal, took care of that and did a 20% water change. did the red slime had to do with the rtn?.  i have not seen more rtn since the water change. but the acro that had rtn look sad. what should i do with the dead  tips?. break it of or leave it. please give addvise. thank you

oh that was dust ponds. I had asked about the bulbs b/c i had some crappy bulbs on my 72 bowfront, and all a sudden my sps had started dieing from the tips. seems the bulbs had used up their life in about 7 months. after replacing things started coming back... just a thought. also have you tested your calcium and alk? i also runa  calc reactor, but the demands of my tank seem to change every once in a while and i will have to supplement one or the other.

How many corals are starting to rtn dave?  Is it just one, or is it various?

I had a really nice millepora coral that did fine for several days in the tank after acclimation in the fuge, and then just randomly started to rtn, and was gone in two days.  Then I have other corals that all but died before the mille did, and are now colored back up and growing.  go figure.
Was that in there yesterday? Casper--WY windier than ?

Down to a 20, soon to double or nothing

I've read several things where red slime remover negatively affected SPS big time "after treatment" but you said its improved since then?

Why the cyano outbreak?  Did the temp flux heavy (heater went out), or have you had an influx of nutrients, fish die etc... Generally something goes out of whack for cyano to spread and that may be the cause of the bleaching.  Have you changed carbon recently or started running it?  Generally its going to be one of a couple things, system flux temp/nitrates etc, too much light (new bulbs, or clearer water from running carbon), I'm guessing there are no parasites or nipping fish?

I'd start from there, sometimes SPS is just rather finicky......
