I'd like to know the best glue for glueing tennis ball to golf ball size live rock together. I have a hot glue gun, can I use that, or is epoxy better? If epoxy is better, what brand and where can I buy it at?

I don't think that a hot glue gun would work well at all, but I haven't tried.

I have heard of others using aquamend that you can find at home depot.  It is cheaper than the aquarium brand epoxies.  I have some, but haven't tried it yet.

I use regular super glue to glue frags to the rocks. I like the gel version the best. As for glueing two rocks together, I'm not sure whats the best to use. You could always use zip-ties, that wouldn't hurt your tank.

For glueing small rocks/frags to main rock I use ZapGel available at the LFS for about $15.00 or at hobby stores for about $7.00 for the large tube. For glueing larger rocks to rocks I use AquaMend two part epoxy from Home Depot $3.00 for a stick.

I would recommend the two-part epoxy for rocks. The super glue will break down over time in the aquarium. It works great for frags because they normally over-grow the glue before it can degrade.

Are they too small for acrylic dowels?  I have heard of people drilling holes in the rocks and threading them onto acrylic dowels to hold them in place.

I have a cluster of green polyps that aren't attached to any rock.  Can I super glue them to a rock?  If so , do you take them out of the water to do it?

Perhaps I would be better at basket weaving. . . at least it would be cheaper!

Yes you can super glue them to a rock. Just tack them with the glue to hold them in place and they will finish the job in a fairly short time. Maybe a couple weeks. I would use a super glue gel such as ZapGel for this. I would do it underwater but you would be OK taking the GSP out of the water for this.

Thanks for the info. The rock is going to be base rock for a small tank and needs a sturdy bond. I think I'll try the aquamend stuf. How long does it take to dry before you put it in the tank?

It will cure underwater.  It only takes a few minutes for it to start to harden once the two parts are mixed.  In a day or so it is fully cured.
