I have a 75 gallon tall tank that is cycled and ready to add fish into.  I have about 10 snails and a few hermit crabs in there now that all seem to be doing well.  I would like to add some fish this weekend if possible but from what I understand I have to get some powerheads in there first to create some flow.  I currently have a Marineland MJ 1200 that was given to me with the tank but it is not in the tank as it does not have the suction cup attachment to attach it and I cannot seem to find anywhere to get one.  I am also not positive it is working properly.  So I need to figure out how many powerheads, what kind and where to place them so that I can get the flow in there that I need to add fish.  For right now I am going to do a fish only tank and then will add corals after my fish are added if I feel prepared and ready to do so.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

The general practice is to add two powerheads, one on each side of the tank, pointed toward the surface at the center of the tank. This will add enough movement to keep the water circulating and remove dead spots. How much flow and how big of powerhead/pump/wavemaker is completely up your personal preference for a fish only tank (actually the type of fish will have a factor as well).

If your not looking to spend much money than id look for 2 used Koralia 1050s from here on the forums. If you want something that will be a bit more reliable then i would go with a Jebao WP25/WP10 combo. If you really want a top of the line you can spend your money on a MP40/MP10 combo.

It sounds like your just starting out in the hobby and you most likely have tons of other things you will want/need to buy... so if it were me i would pick up a few used Koralias and save your money!

Thank you for the reply.  Right now this will be a fish only tank but I will probably add coral in the future.  I guess I can tackle that when I get to it.  Let me tell you the type of fish I am looking at to make sure that will work.  I am looking at a Bengaii Cardinal, Royal Gramma, Midas Blenny, Carpernter's Flasher Wrasse, Ocellaris Clown, Longnose Hawkfish, One Spot Foxface, Coral Beauty and Kole Yellow Eye Tang.

One more thing.  I am confused how to find the used Koralias on here.  Do you just look through the postings or is there a faster way?

Thank you.

You can post an ad in the "Aquarium related classieds" section. Title the ad looking for "LF Used Korelia Powerheads".

What are the dimensions of your tank? I have 2 Korelia 425 on my back glass pointed forward and a Korelia 750 on either side pointing toward the center. This is a 4' 90 gallon.

My tank is a 75 gallon tall tank.  It is 3 feet wide and two feet deep and however tall it has to be to make up 75 gallons.  Maybe 3 or so?

Where are you located?  I'm way up North of Logan, but if that's close enough I could gift you a Koralia powerhead for free.
