Are there any types of fish that you should not have with a reef?  What kinds should I avoid when setting up a fish tank?

There are many types and many exceptions to the rules.  You should research each fish that you would like to have and figure out if you can meet it's needs, along with the needs of the other organisms in your tank.
Was that in there yesterday? Casper--WY windier than ?

Best to start with simple common fish and work from there.  I'd recommend any of the common hobby books like Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Fenner.  I'm not home, but when I get back you can borrow my copy.
Also local stores can help out a lot here.

IMO, selection of fish, coral, and invertebrates to place in a reef tank is secondary to providing a healthy environment for them. If you are new to this hobby I suggest you ask the question, "What are the best ways to set up a reef aquarium?" You will get a host of recomendations here. Then you can choose the one that fits you and your budget and avoid the common mistakes made by people who only get a few spare words of advice from the busy clerk at the LFS.

I agree.  However, putting in fish that will eat corals is not providing a Healthy environment for the corals.  The same can be said for fish.  With fish, if other fish harass them, they get stressed which can lead to ick or other parasitic attacks.
