Topic: me vs sebae anemone Posted: April 27 2005 at 3:34pm |
Well, I bought a sebae anemone from a LFS. The guy that sold it to me said it wwould be easy to take care of but now I am hearing they are more difficult that I was told. Does anyone have suggestions for me. My tank is a 90 gal with 480W of PC lighting and has been set up for about 3 or 4 months. Does my anemone even stand a chance? I heard a pink skunk clown might help keep him be happy.

They are a harder to keep anemone. I usually recommend bubble tips for first time anemone keepers.
Anyway, a clownfish is not going to help the situation. I would feed the anemone 2-3 times per week (or more) until it browns up. As soon as they get the brown color back they usually do okay.

You know, we are in the same boat. It looks like we got a sebae
anemone (white bubbly arms with bright purple-spot tips) and he
did "throw up" his first krill we gave him.. and then last night he
travelled down to the bottom of a rock.
He's doing better than he was -- although we haven't tried to feed him again. Here's my question though:
We have 2 baby nemo's from Mark that won't even give the anemone a
second glance! Anyone have any way of herding the little things
into the anemone? Or is it a "well, they just weren't interested,
better luck next time" kind of thing?

This is a good problem to have IMO.
That means the anemone is alive and doing well. You could always find a new home for a healthy sebae.

Star did you see my post about my sebae? Here it is http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6357&PN=1 I bought it 4 months ago and it was 3 inches accrossed now it is over 9 inches.
rhymechizel I have know idea what I did but mine is growing fine feed it every now and then and maybe get a clown for it. My wild caught percula clowns hosted to it within minutes. They also like to be on the sand next to a rock instead of on the rocks. I had mine for a few months with only a 130 watt pc light so your lighting should be fine. Good luck with it.

The sebae that is in my tank is growing like a weed. Bought when it was brown and a good size. I think it will take up the entire corner of ourr 75 in no time at all. Have 2 maroons taken it as home.

just wanted to update and say my sebae is looking good. He has attached to a rock by the sand, is getting some brown color and last night I discoved he has become sticky to the touch wich I hear are all good signs. Its been about four weeks since I bought him and it looks like he is finally coming around and is going to make it. Thanks for the help and I hope my sebae continues to do well.

Glad to hear its doing good.
I think most sebaes make it. You just have to be a little more attentive to there needs at first. Now that mine is all brown I don't even feed it more then what it catches and what the clowns share with it. Although I do sometime show friends how it eats so I do feed it a krill every now and then maybe once or twice a month.
